The Fast Pace of Virus Creators Invalidates Antivirus Products

The antivirus products out there are failing to stop viruses because they cannot catch up to the pace of virus creators. The number of viruses began to grow exponentially since the mid 2000s when criminals discovered that malicious software could be profitable. Even though the antivirus industry has grown as well, experts say it's falling behind. On average, it took almost a month for antivirus products to update their detection mechanisms and spot the new viruses. This has prompted start- ups to come up with new ways with the computer security. The hottest security start-ups today are companies like Bit9, Bromium, FireEye and Seculert that monitor Internet traffic, and companies like Mandiant and CrowdStrike that have expertise in cleaning up after an attack. When antivirus makers are able to fortify desktop computers, chances are the criminals will have already moved on to smartphones.
